Over the years, the quality of health care has gained more and more attention. When it comes to care, the patient behaves as a consumer. Hence, the patient examines the differences in quality between different providers. Next to that, more and more people first determine which care provider is known for his best quality before starting their treatment. As a consequence, health insurance companies are forced to provide the best care possible for their clients. Quality is rewarded. Consequently, competition between health care organisations has come into being.

Important questions within the health care are: What is quality and how does one measure it? In previous years measuring instruments have been developed to survey the quality of health care. Here, the patient’s experience is of primary interest.   • The Patiënten Volg Systeem (PVS): An online tracking system that surveys the psychological and corporal health of cardiac patients before and after the surgery. This makes it possible to survey patients untill one year after the surgery and investigate long term effects of the treatment.
